Team Guandalini Racing newsletter

After the traditional summer break, the World Superbike Championship prepares for the final push, starting this weekend at the legendary German circuit of the Nurburgring. The Ring was built right next to the old “Nordschleife”, a track that is still open for business today, used by both amateurs and professionals, on two and four wheels, who pay for access to the twenty kilometre stretch of sheer adrenalin. The new circuit is set deep in the countryside, and combines fast sections with tight corners, meaning that a bike set-up that provides optimum traction control is all important. The track is 5137 metres in length and the weather will surely play an important role, seeing as cold, wet conditions were the order of the day at the 2008 event.

The championship is still wide open and with 200 points on offer, it is imperative to stay focused and take as many points as possible from every race. Having finished first and second in the recent round of the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV) at Misano, Team Guandalini travel to Germany with Jakub Smrz and Matteo Baiocco, the young Italian rider who will ride the second bike following on from his recent CIV win at Misano.

Analysis of the overall championship standings shows that Team Guandalini still has a good chance of finishing the season near the top of the leaderboard. At present Jakub Smrz is in tenth position overall but is very close to the four riders immediately ahead of him. As always the technical team, managed by Mirco Guandalini, will work hard to ensure that both riders have the best possible chance, the team having also carried out important work over the summer break.

Matteo Baiocco

“I am very happy to come back to World SBK and to be on board a competitive bike. After the win last weekend in the CIV at Misano I feel I now have a better feeling with the bike and I am 100% prepared, psychologically speaking. I can’t wait to get back on the bike.”

Pierfrancesco Chili

” We arrive at the circuit of the Nurburgring with the target of improving the results obtained last year because it was a very difficult weekend for the guys of Team Guandalini and for Jakub Smrz. We are glad to get back in the race with the second rider, Matteo Baiocco, which has achieved an excellent result in the CIV race, winning it and getting some very interesting times on race”
