Top ten not enough for Foret at Magny-Cours
October 02 2011
Fabien Foret finished eighth in today’s 11th round World Supersport race at Magny-Cours in France today, but, with it, lost the opportunity to carry the 2011 title fight to the final round at Portimao in Portugal in two weeks time.
The race was one by Italian rider, Luca Scassa, but the main celebrations were reserved for his team-mate, Chaz Davies, whose sixth place finish secured his World Supersport riders’ championship.
Foret was the only rider with a realistic chance of delaying Davies’s success but set-up problems at the 4.411km Magny-Cours circuit led to a second row start for the Frenchman and the race itself did not bring the required improvement.
Foret’s compatriot and Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Florian Marino, finished one place lower in ninth after today’s 22 lap race, but he, too, was disappointed with handling issues that prevented a better result.
Fabien Foret – eighth
There is not so much I can say, apart from the fact that I am obviously very disappointed with our performance this weekend. From the first day here we have been missing half a second. We’ve tried a variety of different settings but we didn’t find a solution. I tried my best during the race but I just couldn’t make it. I have often struggled to perform here at Magny-Cours but the weekend was just very difficult. I’ll try to forget it as quickly as possible and try to be as pumped as possible to win the last round in Portugal for myself and my team.
Florian Marino – ninth
The race was the best I could do after it wasn’t really our weekend. I gave everything I could and made quite a good lap time, so there are some positives. But I had the same problems as Fabien which was low traction and grip at the front of the bike, which pushed me wide at the corner en try. The two problems made it very hard but I don’t think I could have done any more, so there are no regrets. I look forward to Portimao where I can hopefully find the speed I had in Imola last weekend.
Ronald ten Kate – team-manager
First of all, congratulations to Chaz Davies and his team for winning the world title. It was our last attempt to keep it from him but it really didn’t work this weekend It was difficult to find a good setting for the guys, even though we were only missing a little bit. So that’s it, the championship is over and, having won quite a few over the years, you can imagine we were a little reluctant to give this one up. Now, we’ll just look forward to the final round for a nice, gloves-off fight at Portimao.
