HANNspree Ten Kate Honda>> Sofuoglu maintains podium record in Holland
April 30 2010
Ten Kate Racing – Nieuwsbrief
Kenan Sofuoglu maintained his record of scoring a podium finishing at each round of the 2010 World Supersport championship, placing third in today’s fourth round race at Assen in Holland.
The race was won by fellow Honda-mounted Eugene Laverty, with series leader Joan Lascorz finishing third with an eight-point series points lead over the Turkish Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider. Sofuoglu’s team-mate, Michele Pirro, suffered a third lap crash and, despite rejoining, his CBR600RR had sustained too much damage and the Italian was forced to retire.
Kenan Sofuoglu – 3rd
It wasn’t a really good race for me because I’ve been fastest all weekend. When the others got past me, I thought I would wait and see what they could do, but where I knew I was fast, I couldn’t pass them. I was finding it difficult to brake really hard and don’t know whether this was because of the w armer conditions. Near the end of the race, I thought maybe I will just take the points. Of course, it would be nice to win – especially at the team’s home race. Now, I will just work towards Monza where, for sure, I will do better than today.
Michele Pirro – DNF
I am really disappointed at crashing again – for me and my team. I ran a bit wide at the last corner at the end of the second lap and maybe I picked up some dirt on the left side of my tyres because, when I went into the hairpin, I lost the bike. My start was not so bad but, I need to go to Monza with a new rider, because the race was not so good here.
Ronald ten Kate – team-manager
Kenan was enjoying a perfect Assen weekend until he had to go and race. We are all a little surprised and disappointed with the outcome but this is only one battle, and winning one battle doesn’t win a war. With Michele, we honestly believe that he was probably trying to make up a bit too soon for his mistake at the chicane at the end of lap two. We’ll head to Monza with a fresh approach and hope for some more realistic results there.
