Vesrah Suzuki >> A FRUSTRATING DAY IN DAYTONA SPORTBIKE RACE 1

June 11 2010

Vesrah Suzuki had a day that started with the best qualifying performances for the team to date in the Daytona SportBike class earning Cory West a front row start in P4 with Chris Fillmore directly behind him in row 2 and ending in frustration with DNF’s for both team riders. Both Vesrah Suzuki riders got off the line well and were in the top 4 to start the race but this would not last. Cory had a mechanical before completing the first lap and Chris had an encounter with the rumble strips several laps later. The pair of DNF’s had the riders slip one position in the championship point standings with Cory falling to 6th and Chris to 9th.

Mark Junge – Team Owner Vesrah Suzuki
“The day started out well with the best qualifying in the Daytona SportBike class that the team has had but misfortune struck during the race this afternoon. We will be looking to rebound in Daytona SportBike race 2 tomorrow.”

Cory West – Vesrah Suzuki #57
“Our team made great changes to the bikes for this mornings final qualifying and I ended up 4th. I’m very excited to get my first front row start for an AMA national. The race started well and I was running 3rd but on the exit of the carousel my engine let go. It was a disappointment for sure but I think we can fight for the win tomorrow.”

Chris Fillmore – Vesrah Suzuki #55
“We started the weekend with my best qualifying finish so far with 8th place on the second row. After a pretty good jump on the start I headed down the back straight sitting in 4th and Cory’s exit moved me up to 3rd. I felt pretty comfortable running with the top guys on the opening laps. On the 3rd lap I got passed going in to turn 5 but I got a good run up the hill into 6 to reclaim 4th and got the door shut on me from the outside. We got together which caused me to run off track. I grabbed a bit too much throttle coming back on the track and it just spit me off. I tried to save it but there was nothing I could do. We will have to look forward to tomorrow.”
