Team Guandalini Racing newsletter

RACE 1 -We aren’t in Hollywood but the show provided by the World Superbike Championship is worthy of the best American film productions. Race 1 due to the incident that saw Karl Muggeridge involved, fortunately without consequences, was stopped and after a second procedure for starting the battle between the riders took place with no holds barred with the end result obtained through the sum of timing between the races. In the first start both riders of Team Guandalini passed after the first lap very backward and had to battle fiercely to recover positions. At the moment of red flag, which took place after 5 laps pathways, Jakub Smrz occupied the eleventh position, while Gregorio Lavilla seventeenth.

At the second restart Jakub, took the eleventh position has lost more positions but thanks to a spectacular comeback recovered positions on battle with the Ducati Official rider Noriuki Haga, with Leon Haslam and the Alstare Suzuki of Yukio Kagayama, ending the race in ninth position but due to the difference in time concluded the races in eighth place earning important points for the general classification.

Other important points came from Gregorio Lavilla that thanks to the steadfastness that distinguishes it, he has managed to bring his Ducati finish in fourteenth place absolute, gaining two more important points.
The race was dominated by an impressive Ben Spies (Yamaha), who didn’t leave nothing but dust and salt to his opponents. In second place is passed Carlos Checa confirming his feeling with this track where last year which saw him winner in both rounds while on the lowest rung of the podium was up on Michel Fabrizio Ducati Xerox 1198.

RACE 2 -At the end of the day of competition on the U.S. in Salt Lake City budget for the Guandalini Team is to be considered positive due to the points obtained in both races by Jakub Smrz. At the start of race 2 Jakub has paid dear for the difference engine compared to the factory riders and lost several positions through the first corner in eleventh position. After a few laps behind Aprilia’s rider Nakano, Jakub overtake him and began the comeback that led behind the group battling for third place made up of riders and factory bikes and after several overtaking, concluded the race with an excellent sixth place, which places it in the top ten overall standings with 82 points, not far from the two Honda riders Checa (93) and Kiyonari (96).

Different the situation for the other rider of Team Guandalini, Gregorio Lavilla, who after the start has lost a couple of positions and while fighting with the other Ducati 1198 of Lanzi and Byrne, after six laps, fell ruinous, fortunately without consequences , thus ending his race early.

The race was won by the US rider Ben Spies has won despite the pressure of Michel Fabrizio who has followed throughout the race, succumbing only in the final. In third place was placed Jonnhy Rea (Honda)

Jakub Smrz -
“I am pretty happy after both races because I scored many points what was my main target. Not everything went perfect because both starts in race 1 were not perfect because I didn't find way to handle clutch.

Anyway in aggregate I could make 8th with a very good pace. In race 2 I had good start but bike was little to bit to slow and I lost many positions before coming to first corner. After I gained some positions and in the end I was fighting in group for 3rd position. Today I was definetely fast enough to beat all from that group but I was loosing a lot on speed and acceleration what made be overtaking imposible. But I am really happy with 8th and 6th today, we had very good weekend in good pace and team made great work. Now we have to work a bit on engines because it's our weakest point.”
